Monks’ Bread Christmas Gifts
Fr. John Gribowich (now known as Fr. Philip Neri), who was in residence at St. Charles Borromeo for several years, is now a Trappist monk. His abbey’s specialty is bread and baked goods.
If you are interested in ordering any of their gift boxes for Christmas, Fr. Philip passed on a tip that their annual sale will be on “Cyber Monday” (the Monday after Thanksgiving). Please note you will need to sign up for their special offer emails in advance as the deals will available exclusively by email (you can do so by entering your email address in the Special Offer Emails sign-up on the bottom-right of monksbread.com).
Monks’ Bread and Monks’ Specialty Bakery are works of the Trappist monks of the Abbey of the Genesee in Western New York. Manual work is an integral part of Trappist life. The bakery supports the monastery’s primary mission of prayer.
Monks’ offers a wide assortment of delicacies, including hand-baked Biscotti and Biscottini, rich Fruitcakes, savory Cheese Crisps, wholesome Fruit & Nut bars, Jams and Preserves, premium Nut Butters, and of course their famous Monks’ Bread.

Christ the King – Following His Way
Cristo Rey (Christ the King), 1953, Cali, Colombia
(About this Image)
So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say I am a king.
For this I was born and for this I came into the world,
to testify to the truth.
Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”
(John 18:37)

Daniel 7:13–14
November 21, 2021
Like last week, we will be using a commentary written several years ago. The historical background still represents contemporary scholarship and has remained unchanged, but I have developed the conclusions somewhat differently.
When I was a young priest, there were still older ones who spoke about “Representative Men”. It was an Edwardian expression for a someone with superior skills who we would want to represent us. This is where we begin with the title: “Son of Man”. Although it is somewhat vague on purpose and will be developed by Jesus in a rather surprising way, we must remember that it has a specific place in the Book of Daniel.
Evening Prayer at 5 PM
Please download the worship aid to participate in Friday’s evening prayer, which will begin at 5 PM.
Instructions on how to join are available here.
Homily – 33rd Sunday Ordinary Time (Msgr. LoPinto)
We are in the final part of the gospel of Mark. Mark spends the last third of his gospel giving us almost a day to day detail of Jesus’s last week what we refer to as Holy Week, and the section today is from the Tuesday of that week.
Jesus has been at the temple and engages in dialog and in dispute with the leaders, but he has also used it as an opportunity to teach, as you might recall from last week, when he points out the widow who puts in her last two coins.
As it proceeds, Jesus is aware of what will be coming. And he knows that the expectations of the people will get disappointed because they were anticipating with his glorious entry into Jerusalem. They were anticipating that this would be the end of the Roman Empire at the end of the Roman control over their territory and that as the Messiah, he would be ushering in then the great revival of the Nation of Israel.
