2014 Annual Appeal

Dear Parish Family of St. Charles Borromeo Church,

As we come to the close of 2013, the St. Charles parish community continues to experience growth and increasing personal commitment in all areas of parish life. As you know, we operate and maintain the care of the church with an “all-volunteer” effort.  We want to thank all of you for your gifts of time, talent and treasure and encourage those of you who are interested in volunteering to please join one of our committees, lay ministries or assist in one of the many Parish Spiritual and Social events.  We also ask that you consider increasing your weekly contribution by 10% if you are financially able.  The attached statement linked below gives our annual report for 2013 detailing the activities of the parish and financial situation as well as an online pledge form. You may also set up an online reoccurring donation or one time donation here through WeShare by clicking here.

We, as parishioners, are the stewards of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. We are blessed to be a part of a loving and caring congregation. Our ongoing personal stewardship is critical to both grow and maintain our faith community at St. Charles.

Yours in Jesus Christ,

Board of Trustee Members, Parish Council and the Finance Committee

Russian Chamber Chorus of New York Concert 1/11

Russian Chamber Chorus of New York (RCCNY) presents the second concert in its series, The Spirit of Old Russia at 4 pm on Saturday, January 11 at St. Charles. The program traces the development of Russian sacred music from the 18th century through the 20th century, including its roots in Russian folk songs and ancient chant melodies. Compositions will include a setting of Pushkin’s haunting Winter Road by Vissarion Shebalin, three sacred choral miniatures by Nikolai Golovanov, a double-choir concerto by influential Baroque Ukrainian composer Dmitry Bortniansky, and a setting of Gogol’s text “Boundless Fields” by Alexander Kastalsky, a prominent Russian choral composer virtually unknown in the West. For this concert program, the chorus will be joined by Anatoly Trofimov on the bayan, the traditional Russian button accordion, and Tamara Volskaya who will play domra, a lute-like traditional Russian instrument. With this program, RCCNY audiences will gain a greater understanding of how Russian choral music has evolved and blossomed over centuries.
