The Outreach Committee is meeting today in the Sacristy
after 10:30 Mass. Please join us in planning our activities
for the fall and winter. To all who have contributed Mother’s
Day gifts for the residence of Providence House, thank you
again for your generosity.
Stewardship
Have you noticed the Meditation Garden being created? The
space alongside our building was formally an overgrown
wasted space that needed to be transformed. Due the efforts
of several very dedicated parishioners this area was cleared
of the weeds, and flowers where planted. This spring their
efforts have been on display and we all are appreciative of
their work. There is always more flowers to plant, earth to be
nurtured.
There is more work to be done, and if you feel a need to
nurtore your green thumb- we have a place for you!
Thank you to all who volunteered their time and work to
make SCB a more inviting community. It is our Church.
Pastoral Institute
Our Diocese sponsors a three year training program designed to equip members of the Parish to develop skills to assist Fr Ed in continuing to grow and develop the parish. In September 2010, the Brooklyn component of the training program will be conducted at Saint Francis College on
Thursday evenings from 7: 15 to 9: 15 pm (beginning September 16). This interactive training program uses an adult model learning approach. It is not like “going to college”, with term papers and final exams!
We need a few good men and women to become part of this program and dedicate their talents to continue helping our Parish grow. If you would be interested in being a part of this dynamic program please see Fr Ed! check Holy Spirit Institute
Sanctuary Stained Glass Windows
Set into the back wall of our Sanctuary are ten unique
stained glass panels fashioned in Tiffany style. On the north
side are Sts. Agnes, Elizabeth of Hungary, Gabriel the
Archangel, Rose of Lima and Joan of Arc. On the south side
are Sts. John the Baptist, Aloysious Gonzaga, Michael the
Archangel, Patrick and Stephen.
Diocesan Strategic Planning Process
Fr. Ed asks all of us to provide input into our Diocesan Strategic Planning Process.
Please help us by filling out the questionnaire below, and then pressing the “Submit” button.
Christ Jesus, Our Hope, A Diocesan Strategic Plan for Renewal, has begun in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Part of this process invites each parish to consider its own future, but to do so in light of the larger diocesan church. As parishioners and parish leaders engage in a critical reflection on the current and future life of their parish, a broader understanding of the challenges faced by the entire Diocese is also needed.
To this end, the Planning Commission for Christ Jesus, Our Hope will issue a four-part Diocesan Report beginning on Friday, April 16, 2010. Each week will examine a different aspect of diocesan life. Part One presents the overall pastoral life of the diocese, including an examination of sacramental celebrations, Mass attendance, and faith formation. Subsequent reports will look at finances, demographics, and parish leadership. If you wish to read the entire text for Part One of the Report, please visit www.ChristJesusOurHope.com. A summary of Part Two will also appear in this weekend’s edition of The Tablet.
Family Faith Program
Although we are in the midst of preparing for First Communion and the last month of our religious education program, we are still looking forward and planning for next year! We are blessed to have six wonderful volunteer teachers, but we urgently need to recruit more people for
our team next year. Specifically, we will need help with substitute teaching, the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and the post-Confirmation program. Can you offer your time and talent to share faith with our younger parishioners? It is a most rewarding experience! Please leave your name
with Father Ed or email Maureen Pond at [email protected], for further information.
Annual Catholic Appeal
Thank You to the 56 parishioners who have brought us
within 1% of reaching our Appeal goal of $27,954! Your
pledge is needed more than ever this year because all funds
raised over the goal will be used for repairing and renovating
the school building envelope (roof, windows, parapet,
pointing and boiler) to get the building ready for leasing.
Please make a pledge to the 2010 Annual Catholic Appeal
and be sure to note St Charles Borromeo on the Parish
Name line of the appeal envelope.
